Safety

Is the Gobbins right for you?

The Gobbins Coastal Path is a physically challenging walk. The path is 3 miles (5 km) long, quite narrow, with many hand-carved and uneven steps. The entire walk is the equivalent of climbing and descending 50 flights of stairs.

As a result, it may not be suitable for people with:

  • heart conditions such as angina
  • respiratory conditions such as asthma or emphysema
  • musculoskeletal conditions such as back or joint pain
  • other conditions such as seizures or stroke.

If you live with a long-term condition like diabetes, it is your responsibility to make all necessary preparations in advance. Although no bags are allowed on the path, we will provide you with a small waist bag to carry your emergency treatment equipment. Please read our terms and conditions for the full details.

Please wear walking boots with strong ankle support for your tour. If you do not own sturdy walking boots, we have a limited number for hire at £5. Trainers/sneakers will not be permitted, please contact Guest Relations if you are unsure of this policy.

All visitors must wear the hard hats provided. While we monitor the condition of the cliff regularly, we cannot rule out the possibility of a rockfall.

For safety reasons, anyone shorter than 4 feet tall (1.2 metres), are not permitted on the path. Children may not be carried.

Please view our terms and conditions to read our full health and safety brief. For further information, please visit our FAQs page.
